Porcelain veneers in Hungary: cost, one-visit timeline, honest caveats

By Márk, founder · Updated 18 July 2026 · guide prices in £ and CA$

Veneers are the one-visit treatment: a smile designed, fabricated and bonded inside a week, at less than half UK prices. They're also the treatment with the industry's ugliest mis-selling problem — so this page covers what a veneer is, what it isn't, and the question that protects your teeth in any country.

What veneers cost

Guide ranges from published private price lists, 2026. A single veneer rarely justifies a trip; a full smile makeover clears the travel costs several times over — the honest threshold maths.

The one-visit timeline

 1. Before flying: photos and X-rays → written plan, including how many teeth and — crucially — how much preparation each needs.
 2. Days 1–2: smile design agreed (shape, shade, how much "perfect" you actually want — the best veneers are the ones nobody clocks), then conservative preparation and impressions or scans.
 3. Days 3–6: the clinic's lab fabricates; you're at the baths.
 4. Days 6–8: try-in — you approve the look before bonding — then final cementation and bite adjustment. Home with the finished smile.

The mis-selling trap: "veneers" that are actually crowns

A veneer is a thin porcelain facing on the front of a tooth, over a preparation measured in fractions of a millimetre — most of your tooth remains. The infamous "Turkey teeth" cases that fill UK consumer coverage are something else: healthy teeth ground down to pegs for full crowns, marketed as veneers because the word sells better. That preparation is irreversible, commits every treated tooth to a lifetime of crown replacement, and is a terrible trade for aesthetics on healthy teeth.

The question that protects you, in any clinic in any country: "Veneers or crowns — and exactly how much of my tooth will you remove?" Get the answer in writing in the treatment plan. A clinic that answers precisely is a clinic that prepares conservatively. (Context on how destinations differ on exactly this point: Hungary vs Turkey, honestly.)

Veneers, bonding, or whitening — the honest ladder

Cosmetic dentistry has a cheap-to-committed ladder, and good clinics start at the bottom: if your teeth are straight and healthy but stained, whitening (£120–£250 in Hungary) may be the whole answer. Minor chips and gaps: composite bonding, no drilling, reversible, at £60–£150 per tooth. Veneers earn their place for shape and alignment corrections, discolouration that whitening can't shift, and worn edges — when you're ready for a 10–15-year commitment with eventual replacement built in. A clinic that quotes ten veneers before discussing the cheaper rungs is optimising for its invoice, not your teeth.

Frequently asked questions

How much do veneers cost in Hungary?

Typically £280–£400 per tooth (about CA$480–$680), against £600–£1,000 in the UK. An 8–10 veneer smile makeover saves £2,500–£5,000 — comfortably clearing the trip costs.

How long do veneers take?

One visit of 5–8 days: smile design and conservative preparation early in the week, in-house lab fabrication, then a try-in — you approve the look before anything is bonded — and final cementation. No second trip is clinically required.

What's the difference between veneers and “Turkey teeth”?

A veneer is a thin facing on a conservatively prepared tooth — most of the tooth stays. “Turkey teeth” cases are healthy teeth ground to pegs for full crowns marketed as veneers: irreversible, and a lifetime commitment to crown replacement. Ask any clinic, in writing: veneers or crowns, and how much tooth comes off?

How long do veneers last?

Well-made porcelain veneers typically last 10–15 years with sensible care — no bottle-opening, a night guard if you grind. They eventually need replacing; budget the lifecycle, not just the fitting.
